Simms - George d. 1903

George SIMMS, the youngest son of Presley G. Simms and Nancy
Bradnell was b. in Va June 18, 1814. He came to IN in 1827 and
has since resided in the neighborhood where he died March 23,
1903 of general debility. He was of English parentage and came
from an honest, sturdy, patriotic race of people. His father was
a soldier for six years in the revolutionary war and two years in
the War of 1812. He was marr. to Elizabeth Vester, a most
excellent woman of near Sullivan, IN in April 1856. To this union
were born 8 children, 7 of whom are living, viz: Mrs. Mary E.
Smith, Mrs. Lida Everett, Enoch and Lewis Simms, Mrs. Emma Lyons,
Jacob Simms and Mrs. Ida Mills. The children all reside on farms
north of town, except Mrs. Everett and Enoch Simms, who live in
the city. Mr. S. united with the Christian Church in 1873, was a
very industrious, hardworking man, honest and upright in all his
dealings. Though he began life with only one hand and but little
of this world's goods, by constant toil and the aid of his good
wife, he accumulated quite a good deal of property and at his
death, left each of his children a comfortable estate. He was
blind for almost a year before his death and almost helpless. He
resides at the old homestead; 7 miles northwest of town with his
youngest daughter, Mrs. Ida Mills who kindly cared for him during
his illness. He was an uncle of Dan Simms, the prominent attorney
of Lafayette. the fun. occurred from the home at 10 o'clock Wed.
morning by Rev. Clark D. Kershener of Linden; interment at Mt.
